What was great:
We had a great experience at SoCal State Cup - Surf Sports Park. The complex is well laid out with two sets of fields: numbered fields and lettered fields. The numbered fields are outstanding — high-quality grass, extremely well maintained, flat, and clearly marked. The grass is kept very short, almost carpet-like, which made for a fast and enjoyable playing surface. The lettered fields are also good quality and well kept, though they use a longer style of grass. This creates a slightly different playing experience, but they are still suitable and in good condition. Overall, the complex is well maintained and provides a positive environment for youth soccer.
Could improve:
While the overall quality of refereeing was adequate, there is room for improvement. Some decisions were inconsistent, and although sideline referees were present, they appeared inexperienced or were not consistently utilized by the center referees. Parking fees are consistent with other Southern California tournament venues at $15 per day; however, a discounted weekend rate would be appreciated. This would be especially helpful given that the parking area is a dirt lot, which became extremely muddy after recent rains.
